8/4/16: Writing prompt

10/03/16: Extension show not tell writing

Watch this clip first...

You task is to write in the perspective of a chess piece (your choice) in a 'tense' game of chess using the techniques of show not tell...

Tips:
  • Keep your reader guessing - don't let them know that you are a chess piece until the end
  • Use descriptive language i.e. lots of adjectives
  • Language features (similes, metaphors, onomatopoeia, personification, alliteration etc)
  • Remember to 'show' the reader what is happening with your words, not tell them explicitly what is happening...
Comment on this post with your writing or add these pieces onto the show not tell doc under your name or write in your books :)

  1. I am a knight under the Kings command. As this war begins it is tense as it is Between the two Kings. The King tells me to go forward to the second path and go left and kill the Queen. The queen saw me coming but she was stuck and frozen in time. With the Queen dead the King sent out more knights and bishops but wee were smart and killed them all then this was it...

The King of the blacks was in our reach and it was over we killed the king we had won chess.

  2. A hand clamps around me,thumping me down onto a hard wooden board,a pair of eyes stare down at me like a hunter staring at its prey, once again im thrust across the checkered floor into a wooden statue, the hand swoops down and grabs the fallen pawn a victim in this minefield of a game, will I be next?
