how big was the earthquake?  what is the name of the suburb Mr and Mrs Francis live in?
  1. (understanding)
why do the Francis’ have no neighbours?  what is the ‘red zone’?
  1. (analysis)
why do you think the government is offering money to these people for their homes?
  1. (evaluate / create)
if you were in the 2011 Christchurch earthquake that flattened the city,  then were there during last weekends earthquake, would you stay or pack up and leave?  Explain your answer.

    (1) The earthquake was a magnitude 5.7 in size. The Francis' lived in Bexley.
    (2) They live in isolation in the red zone. The red zone is for people who refuse to leave their homes despite the government trying to by them out.
    (3) We think that the government want to demolish their homes so they can build new houses/structures.
    (4) We would stay because (a) if you have bought an expensive house , it is likely that you won't make any profit because no-one wants to go there (b) the two big earthquakes were four years apart so big earthquakes are not that common

    1) 5.7 and they live in Kairaki.
    2) Because everyone else had sold their homes to the government. The Red Zone is a public exclusion zone (no-one is allowed in it, for safety reasons).
    3) For the safety of the people. Being in the red zone is obviously dangerous, so they're trying to keep the people safe.
    4) Malinn: If I was in both earthquakes, I wouldn't leave. I have to help instead of just 'Being Scared' and moving away. Sure, it might be shocking, but you'll kinda need to get used to these things.
Josh: I don't know if I would leave or stay because it depends on the damage to my home and the surrounding area.
Freya: It depends on my situation, but I think that for my safety and the safety of my family, I would leave. It may not be the most admirable decision, but the fact remains that it's dangerous out there, not to mention terrifying!
Kate: I would leave for a while for the safety of me and my family/pets but I would move back if all my other family was there, and when it was safe and the other buildings were almost rebuilt. But if none of my family was there I would stay.

    1) The earthquake was 5.7 in magnitude. The Francis' couple live in Bexley.
    2) Their neighbours all left because they live in a 'red zone'. The red zones are earthquake prone areas, and the government want the Francis' to move out. The government are paying money to get them out of the 'red zone'.
    3) The government want them to leave the red zone because they don't want the Francis' to die. If they pay them they will be able to find a safer home, out of the red zone.
    4) We would stay because it would be too expensive to move out and anyway, earthquakes could happen anywhere at anytime, so what's the point of moving?

    1) The Earthquake that hit Christchurch was a 5.7 magnitude.
    2) The Francis couple have no neighbours as they have all moved because their houses are in the red zone, but they have refused to move.
    3) We think that the government have offered to buy the house out as it's unsafe to live in as it's in the red zone.
    4) We would leave because we know that there will be plenty more accidents like this is for the safety for me and my family.

    1) They live in Kairaki and the earthquake was a 5.7.
    2) A red zone is an area that is damaged severely, or possibly even unsafe, and they have no neighbours because everyone else had moved out of the red zone.
    3) To get them out of the supposedly unsafe red zone.
    4) I would stay, because its my home and its important to me, I would also have been living there a while-if I'm able to survive first earthquake, I should be able to survive the second as well.

    1) The earthquake was a magnitude 5.7, and they live in Bexley.
    2) They live alone in the red-zone, where they have no neighbours.
    3) Possibly for the safety of the people in the red-zones. It's clearly dangerous, but some people just don't care.
    4) Nathan: I would leave due to the danger and the risk of losing everything.
Alfie: It all depends on my situation. If it means the safety of me and my family, I'd leave.
Adam: I would leave, because it would be too dangerous to live there.

1). The earthquake was 5.7 magnitude, and the Francis' couple lives in Bexley.

2).The neighbours all moved out because the area was a red zone, which means it is a high risk earthquake zone. The government wanted the Francis' couple to move out, but they refused to move.

3).We think that the government is offering money, because they want the people do be safe as possible, and want to make christchurch a working city.

4).We would leave to another country for a Long holiday and come back when Christchurch is built again.

    1) 5.7 in Magnitude. They live in Bexley
    2) Because they are located in the red zone. The red zone is an area where damaged houses are, some have been pulled down.
    3) So they can get out of the red zone and get a new home. also so that they can pull the home down.
    4) It's more expensive to leave but we think it is worth it because we would be in danger if we stayed.

    1) 5.7 and the Francis' live in Bexley.
    2) Because they all moved out and the red zone is a forbidden or dangerous area.
    3) Probably because they don't want the people to get hurt or killed.
    4) Alex: If I was in the earthquakes I probably wouldn't leave, because I wouldn't want to leave my home and my friends.
Blake: I wouldn't leave because I grew up there.
Jamie: Yes, I would. Because after the first earthquake it would've weakened my home and after the second one it would be destroyed.

1.it was a 5.7 magnutide earthquake and they were in the suburb of bexley
2.they have no neighbours because they are daring to live in the red zone which is an area where you are not allowed to build on because it is unstable and unsafe because it is where earthquakes hit the worst
3.the government wanted to buy the houses so people weren't in danger when a earthquake hits
    4. It would depend if I was badly affected in the earthquakes. If I was I'd leave, and if I just got shaken about I would stay

The magnitude of the christchurch earthquake on Valentines day was 5.7.
MR and mrs Francis nicknamed the Bexley couple because the are the only people living in the Bexley red zone area.
    2. The Francias have no neighbours because they all have been bought out of their homes by the by the government because they live in the red zone the Francis wanted to stay. The red zone is an area of land that is in high danger of damage when an earthquake hits.
    3. The government is offering money for these people to leave their homes to lower earthquake casualties.
    4. we would leave because there would probably be more BIG earthquakes and you would have to keep paying money to fix your things and you risk getting injured.

  17. 1:The valentines day earthquake was 5.7 magnitude. The Franci's live on featherston ave in kairaki north of christchurch

2: A red zone is a reigion or area which is dangerous or forbidden. So in this case it is the house around the Francis's and their house as well. They have no neighbours because they live in the isolated red zone which is a place where people in red zone houses won't leave despite the goverment. Their neighbours wanted to be safe so they left.

3.We have three theories for why the government offered them money to leave there houses: 1) The government wants to use the red zone land to build stronger more earthquake proof houses. 2) They want the people to leave the red zone so that they are safe. 3.) The government don't think the people will leave the red zone so they are bribing them with money.

    4. We all agree we would leave because we would not want to put ourselves and our families in danger especially when there are risks of aftershocks. Half of our group thinks they wouldn't come back because theres too much danger but they other half thinks they would come back after the houses and buildings had been earthquake proofed or strengthend.

    1. The valentines day earthquake was a magnitude of 5.7. Mr and Mrs Francis live in kairaki.

    2. The Francis's have no neighbours because the live in the red zone. The red zone is like the danger zone because it got hit by the 2011 earthquake the worst.

    3. The government are offering people money for their homes so they move out of the red zone and in to the green zone.

    4. We would stay because an earth quake is an earth quake it happens. We would also stay because we have been their our whole life.

  19. 1.The earthquake was 5.7 magnutide, they live in the suburb of bexley,
2.they don't have any neighbours because they live in the red zone and the goverment probably bought their old neighbours propertys, the red zone is the most damaged area from the earthquake or the closest which mean most of the houses in the red zone are a danger risk and unsafe.
3.Because the residents are unsafe and will want to move but know one will buy the propertys so the goverment does
4.Manon:I would probably feel unsafe all the time so I would probably move Bebe:i would leave and find big group of people and stay around them until it safe again Isobel: I would feel really unsafe and Iwould be scared about the house maybe falling down on top of me and crushing me so I would leave.

  20. 1. The earthquake was 5.7 magnitude. The suburb that the Francis's live in is Aranui, it is a suburb next to Shirley, Bromley.
2.The red zone is the area of houses that are dangerous in a earthquake if still inside. They have no neighbours because they are in the red zone.
3.Because is it too dangerous to live in and so they are giving money so that the people in the red zone can move to a safer property.
4.I would stay because all my friends are still in christchurch and it would be hard to leave them and make more new friends-Sarah
